The Marches boast a busy schedule of recreational activities
including historical folk and food festivals.
The most important historical folk festival takes place in Fermo in
August with the Palio dell’Assunta
(Horserace of the Assumption) where ten contradas, or quarters of the
town, contend for a fine, artistic banner.
Following, there is Servigliano’s Palio della
Giostra dell’Anello (Horserace of the Joust of the Ring). This is
a four rounds knight competition on a figure eight-shaped track, with the aim of
hitting the centre of twelve rings of increasingly smaller dimension. The
performance of flag wavers adds to the charm.
In closing, there is Sant’Elpidio al Mare with the re-creation of the
Contesa del Secchio, important and
spectacular, that succeeds in involving the entire population of the town and
any tourists that wish to immerse themselves in the past.
Do not miss also the very rich Markets of Antiques
in the different towns, in which you can purchase splendid handmade, artisan
objects from the Marches. |
